Swanger Reminds Homeowners to File Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion Forms
2/24/2010

State Rep. RoseMarie Swanger (R-Lebanon) is reminding homeowners that Monday, March 1 is the deadline to file Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion paperwork with the county assessment office in order to be eligible for property tax relief.

The Taxpayer Relief Act, Act 1 of Special Session 1 of 2006, was signed into law by Governor Rendell on June 27, 2006. The Taxpayer Relief Act provides for property tax reduction allocations to be distributed by the Commonwealth to each school district. Property tax reduction will be through a “homestead or farmstead exclusion.”

Home owners who live in their primary residence need not renew their application if they applied in the past. One way to check if you have been approved is to look at your school tax bill.  If you are signed up, it will show a reduction for Homestead Exemption.

Anyone in doubt can also call the Lebanon County Tax Assessment Office at (717) 274-2801 to check their status.

Homestead/Farmstead Exclusion forms are available through your local school office, or by visiting Swanger’s Web site, RepSwanger.com, and clicking on Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program.
