HARRISBURG – State Rep. RoseMarie Swanger (R-Lebanon) was among House members to vote Monday in favor of House Bill 1644, legislation that would allow county commissioners to eliminate the costly position of jury commissioner in many of the Commonwealth’s 67 counties. The bill now awaits the signature of Gov. Tom Corbett before becoming law.

HARRISBURG – On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the state House sent to Gov. Tom Corbett’s desk legislation that would allow for a state-appointed receiver to take control of the City of Harrisburg in an attempt to address its financial woes. Amendments to Senate Bill 1151 were concurred upon by the House, 177-18.

WHAT: The House State Government Committee, chaired by state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler), will hold a public hearing on legislation that would make English the official language of Pennsylvania. The bills to be examined are House Bill 361, authored by Rep. RoseMarie Swanger (R-Lebanon), and House Bill 888, authored by Rep. Scott Perry (R-Cumberland/York).

Elder Vogel (R-Beaver), that adds the organic substance known as Salvia, synthetic marijuana, and the drug compound referred to as “bath salts” to the list of controlled substances.

The state House on Monday passed Senate Bill 1006, sponsored by state Sen. Elder Vogel (R-Allegheny/Beaver/Lawrence), which reforms Pennsylvania’s Controlled Substance, Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act to include street drugs commonly referred to as “bath salts.” Passage of the bill included an amendment from state Rep. RoseMarie Swanger (R-Lebanon) that strengthens the legislation through expansion of the classes of drugs covered.
